Charity BnB

400 km
$500,000
Are you up to the challenge?

Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade is an extreme challenge, a fund-raiser and a volunteer programme combined.

This year’s event, which will be held from 7 to 9 Sept 2007, will feature a Malaysia-Singapore circuit and a Singapore-only leg. The Malaysia-Singapore circuit will see a contingent of 60 riders and 20 inline skaters embarking on a 400 km journey which will take them from Singapore to Mersing, Desaru (Johor) and back. On their return to Singapore, they will be joined by 200 other riders and inline skaters on the Singapore-only leg – a 40 km route that will take the participants from Changi Ferry Terminal to Sentosa before finishing at HarbourFront Centre.

Organised by global technology integrator Avanade, Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade 2007 aims to raise $500,000 towards the cause “Youth at Risk”. This section of the community includes underprivileged youths between the ages of 12 and 21 years old, who are at risk of drugs, delinquency, crime and abuse.

There will be three beneficiary organisations: The Salvation Army – a global volunteer welfare organisation that runs youth programmes as well as a residential home for abandoned, abused and neglected children; Pertapis Centre for Women and Girls – a welfare home for abused women and girls; and Ling Kwang Youth Centre – a social service centre in the HDB heartlands serving children from needy or broken homes.

This year, for the first time, members of the beneficiary organisations will also be riding shoulder to shoulder with CEOs and industry leaders in Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade, transforming the hills of Desaru and Mersing into the proverbial level playing field.

Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade 2007 is the first major programme launched under the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre’s (NVPC’s) ComCare Connection initiative, which matches corporates with voluntary welfare organisations that cater to the most disadvantaged groups in our society.

NVPC is the national body that promotes and develops volunteerism and philanthropy, functioning as a first-stop centre, catalyst and networking agency to foster the giving spirit in Singapore, whether of time, money or in kind.

True to The ComCare Connection spirit, Bike ’n’ Blade brings together a huge crew of volunteers from a wide cross-section of industries and from all walks of life. In the seven months leading up to the event, volunteers will train with members of the beneficiary organisations to prepare them for the challenge that lies ahead.

Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade 2007 will close with a ceremony at HarbourFront Centre to acknowledge the support of sponsors and the efforts of the participants.

Important notice

Due to the overwhelming response to previous years’ Charity Bike ’n’ Blade events, please note that there are changes to this year’s event registration requirements and process.
