ORGANISERS

“On behalf of the Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade 2007 Organising committee, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your effort and contribution towards the event. Without your help, commitment and sacrifice, this event would not have been possible. We can be proud that we have all been part of a charitable event completely run and managed by volunteers, successfully raised $400,000 for 3 charities, and with a 100% safety record. It is sad that this will be the last Charity Bike ‘n’ Blade. Nevertheless, I’m sure all of us will enjoy the new found friendships made, cherish fond memories of the event and that we were able to make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Sidney Lim, General Manager, SE Asia, Avanade Asia

“The people here at LK Youth Centre would like to express our deep appreciation for the hard work, time and commitment that you guys had spend in order to make this fund raising effort a big success.  The amount raised is huge and you guys have done a great job.” Dr Chang Chian Hui. LK Youth Centre

“Sidney and team - On behalf of Pertapis, our deepest appreciation to all of you. I've been to lots of fundraising event and BnB stands out as the best! To the participants - What effort!! The proceeds will go a long way in providing a sound education program for our young residents. Many thanks to all! Alfie Othman, Pertapis

“I want to extend a very big thank you to you and your team for an extremely well organised Charity Bike 'N' Blade 2007. It was truly an exemplary showcase of warm hearts, hard work, dedication and professionalism in action. It's really sad that this is may be the last Charity BnB but I am very glad to have been involved in this meaningful event both as the beneficiary organisation as well as the part of the Bike 'N' Blade team. Your efforts will have a very lasting and positive impact in the lives of many youths from Ling Kwang, Pertapis and The Salvation Army. On behalf of all the children and youths at The Salvation Army, please accept our heartfelt thanks. May God bless you richly.” Gregory Lee, The Salvation Army

“On behalf of NVPC, I would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Avanade for a wonderful all-encompassing fundraiser. And a very stylish one, at that. Very cool to see the bikers and bladers making their entrance, all decked out in the event ‘uniform’. The end of one thing is the start of something new. We look forward to growing our partnership with you.” Rhonda Koh, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre

PARTICIPANTS

“Overall I think BnB is a credit to the organisers, first as individuals and secondly for the company they represent. Too many companies talk community involvement but you put action to those words and left a very positive impression with a great many people. For best moments it is hard to pick one but the overriding memory that will stay with me is one of possibilities; that with a lot of hard work, dedication and good cheer throughout something much greater than the sum of the parts can be achieved…” Hugh Smiddy

“Great efforts in organising the successful event. It was fun and challenging. Looking forward to 2008 if this event goes into the 4th edition.” Casey Kwan

“I'd like to echo Casey's email by saying that this is indeed yet another fantastically perfectly well organised and enjoyable event for a good cause. Thank you so much Sidney and team for the big efforts. I'm sure every one of us had a wonderful time!! Well done...” Joshua Ngo

“To Sidney and the Avanade team and all the volunteers who helped put together this event, well done!  You have fought the bureaucracy, the heat, the distance and all the different challenges and come out ahead at every juncture.  The event was well organised and I'm sure all the riders and bladers enjoyed themselves.  Most importantly, you have made a huge difference to the three beneficiaries of the event.  Great Job! To all the bladers and riders, we made it!  All the best and keep in touch! Keep riding and blading! “ Albert Yeo

“On behalf of all the bladers, we want to thank all of you for your time and effort in organising this event. Your hard work has made it possible for the bladers to finish the Malaysia leg safely and made history yesterday, skating from Changi Ferry terminal to Harbour Front on the road. We are glad to be part of this wonderful event. THANK YOU.” Judy Lim

“A million thanks to the Avanade Team and all the volunteers for the hard work and dedication. All the work done before and during the event was definitely much harder than for us to just hop on the bike and sit on our saddles for many hours! :-) You've made the event a really fun and enjoyable one -- made sore butts and sore legs worthwhile. Well done and again, thank you all.” Evie Loo

“Without the eloquence of those before me I would like add a..."thank you and well done" to the organisers, volunteers, bikers and bladders. I really enjoyed myself.” John Gaunt

“What more can be said but THANK YOU to Sidney and the Avanade Team who have pushed for it to happen again.  Big thanks to all the VOLUNTEERS who braved the sun and long hours.  Muscle thanks to the therapists for their power massages!! Thanks to Judy and Lawrence for putting together the bladers’ legs. 3 years of great experiences in Malaysia, hard skating, wonderful "holiday" and meeting cool cyclists, absolutely the best volunteers......  KUDOS!! On behalf of my crazy guys from Team SpeedVirus, THANK YOU.” Jenn Lui

“Some things I learnt at Charity BnB 2007:

  1. The best massages are free.  So are energy bars, electrolytes and world's slowest mee goreng at 2nd Day rest stop.
  2. The smallest showers in the world are at Seri Malaysia Hotel in Mersing.  An adult human being gets to shower half his body at a time.
  3. If you're a skilled, experienced rider and you pass out by the side of the road, people will think you're just resting and won't bother to stop.
  4. Only at BnB, the Minister has to wait 90 minutes by an ants nest for teenagers to finish their ride.  Instead of the VIP Lounge, he is invited to ride 2km to buy himself an ice cream.
  5. Only at BnB, the Minister will later thank the organisers and ask them to do it again.
  6. Only at BnB, the last rider in get's presidential vehicular escort and standing ovation upon arrival, while the first rider in has to clap for all behind him/her.
  7. Roller bladers can drink a lot of beer.
  8. If you are riding with your teenage daughter, you might as well be invisible.  My name has been changed to Julia's father.  And the most important lesson,
  9. Sign up early for Charity BnB 2008!!” Jeffrey Bose

“This was my first participation in a cycling cum fund raising event and it was a truly memorable one. Credit must go to the highly capable organising team for such detailed planning that all aspects are taken care of. I thank all the support personnel and volunteers who had to work long hours to ensure our safety and to take care of our needs throughout the three days. I am grateful to all those who supported my participation (family members, relatives, friends and cycling buddies) with their generous donation. I am glad to be part of this remarkable event in support of a worthwhile cause.” Heng Ooi Khiang

“I was about to login and send a thank you mail to the organizer and pleasantly surprised to see that many share the same feeling. I think those of us who get to enjoy the pain, burn some fat, build some muscle, gain some fitness and given more excuses to slurp in those sinful food were just given too much attentions and praises that we deserved. It's really the organiser that has to endure the on-going stress planning and executing the whole exercise many, many months before the event came to the close. 3 times is probably enough for me but I sincerely hope that the Charity Bike 'n' Blade will continue in the future, so that more people will get to experience this exceptional atmosphere and the spirit will live on. Cheers!” Chye Foo Yew

“Both Josephine and I are very impressed with the organisation of the whole event. I take my hat off Ee Sze for sacrificing many Saturdays to co-ordinate the kids' practice rides! It was scary for me to be riding on the main roads and being sandwiched between cars & other bigger vehicles but I am glad I made it to the finish line. Once again, THANK YOU, THANKS to the organising committee and sponsors!” Lily Ng

“First and foremost, I like to thank the committee, Avanade staff and volunteers for their untiring effort in making BnB2007 a reality and success, securing the necessary arrangements to make the participants feel as comfortable as possible…plying the ‘never-ending’ route to provide the necessary support and sustenance to participants, taking pictures of us, be it at our best or worst making sure that our hotel accommodation/food/beverages are taken care of, ... plus, a whole lot more, etc. Kudos to all participants for raising $400K+ for the three beneficiaries, completing the event by overcoming the searing hot weather and rolling hills, be it bikers or bladers, encouraging each other and being a sport throughout these 3 days” James Woo

“I would like to echo the ones who spoke before me in thanking everyone involved in the organisation of the event - everything went so smoothly for us and I've never felt better taken care of. I thought the target of half-a-million was unreachable, but we came darn close to it! I'm proud of what we've achieved, as I think all of us are… Thanks, everyone for the great company and fond memories. See you guys around. :)”  Mark Lim

“Hope you have all recovered from the stress and fatigue from the Mersing ride and organising the B&B 2007 at the same time. I enjoyed the trip though it was punishing and tiring, I have never ridden such a long distance one, before let alone one that was a continuous 3 days of riding. I want to congratulate you for a work well done…Thanks for giving your time and energy for the well done event and a meaningful one.” Nicky Ting

“I would like to thank you for your great effort, efficiency and always-friendly service in the organising of Charity Bike n Blade. Really hope BNB will be held again next year and I would love to go for the whole ride this time!” Lim Mei Mei

“Bryan and I enjoyed ourselves immensely even though the Malaysian Hills made us earn their respect. The planning, coordination was spot on and everything went pretty smoothly. Well done to the Avanade people, the planning committee and to anyone else that helped or contributed effort in any amount. Well done to all the cyclists who cranked their way to the end. Cramps galore. The bladers are nuts. God knows how you guys skated up those hills. Great job man. We really enjoyed the company of all of you guys. We are both truly looking forward to the next Bike and Blade. Catch up with you all sometime. Big Thanks!” -The Teo Brothers (Barry & Bryan) (We are not twins)
